I saw yesterday that the release date for FFXIV has been set… which means that my social life will be going down the drain come 30th September.
I used to play a lot of FFXI back in my college days so I’ve been waiting for this game ever since they announced it. As soon as I got home I turned on both of my PC’s and began to run the benchmark utility that is available to download.
The results for both of my machines weren’t as bad as I thought they would be actually, I am quite impressed with the performance of both PC’s and had to take some screenshots just to prove to a friend who has an Intel i7 920, 6GB of (DDR3) RAM and a ATI HD (not sure of the exact number but it’s a good card – better than mine) that my PC had outperformed his. Whilst my PC isn’t bad, it shouldn’t be able to stand up to that, as if you know anything about hardware you’ll know that a Core 2 Quad Q6600, 4GB (DDR2) RAM and a Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+ which is a few years old now shouldn’t be able to outperform what is essentially a brand new machine so it seems that somewhere on the i7, something is bottlenecking and slowing the whole system down quite substantially.
Anyway, on with the screenshots:
My higher spec PC scored 3100 on the test at a resolution of 1280×720 and 2028 at the higher resolution of 1920×1080. My lower spec PC scored 1288 on the lower res which is fairly respectable considering it’s 5yrs old!
Below is the website where the benchmark utility can be downloaded from:
If it plays anything like how it looks and FFXI then it should be an epic gaming experience – I can’t wait.
